3.Influence of Organic Waste Amendment on the Spore Number and Root Colonization of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi

Kazunori Sakamoto and Kenichi Katoh(Faculty of Horticulture, Chiba University )

We carried out a field survey in order to estimate the influence of organic waste amendment on the spore number of arbuscular mycorrhizal ( AM ) fungi and the colonization of roots with symbiotic AM fungi. The soils used were collected from the plots amended with various organic wastes ( cattle slurry, Swine slurry, farmyard manure, corn straw and wheat straw ) and non-amended plot in the field of the Tochigi Agricultural Experiment Station. We founded the decrease in spore number of AM fungi and percentage of colonization of roots with AM fungi in the soil amended with organic waste. This may be due to the increase in the amount of available phosphorus in soil by the amendment of organic waste.
